Biocidal products are divided into 22 product types. Biocides classified as types 3, 4, 14, 18, 19, and 22 are called biocidal products and are related to the care, keeping, and transport of animals. These products affect living organisms (bacteria, viruses, etc.) and may pose a threat to human health or the environment; therefore, they are subject to strict notification requirements.
It is also important to note that, in terms of regulation, veterinary biocides are also classified as chemical mixtures and are therefore subject to the requirements of the CLP Regulation.
To supply products legally and responsibly:
- If the product poses a health or physical hazard, the UFI code (unique formula identifier) must be indicated on the product packaging.
- Once a UFI code has been assigned to a mixture due to the hazard it poses, a notification must be prepared and submitted to the Poison Control Centres (PCN) via the ECHA system.
- If the product is supplied to the Lithuanian market, it must be notified in the IS AIVIKS database, and if it is supplied to other countries, depending on the composition or purpose of the product, it may need to be notified in other national systems.
The notification process provides the competent authorities with the necessary information to provide appropriate assistance in the event of an accident or poisoning. This information is used to monitor the movement of chemical substances and mixtures on EU markets and to record the volumes and types of products supplied.
Depending on the type of product, its area of use, and the applicable requirements, we:
- We create a UFI code and include it on the product label.
- We prepare and submit a PCN notification to the ECHA system.
- We submit a notification to the IS AIVIKS system for the Lithuanian market.
- We submit a notification to the LVGMC system for the Latvian market.
- We assess whether the notification documents are complete and, if not, we help to prepare them.
- We check whether the notified data complies with the SDS and label information.
- We provide consultations on the need for notification and the division of responsibilities among supply chain participants.
