Labelling of home fragrances

Home fragrances are available on the market in various forms – sticks, liquids for diffusers, scented candles, etc. – and are generally classified as chemical mixtures. The range of home fragrances has grown significantly in recent years, with products of increasingly diverse composition and purpose (e.g., laundry perfumes, bedding fresheners) constantly appearing on the market.

Depending on the characteristics of the product and the risk it poses to consumers and the environment, additional requirements may apply to home fragrances in practice. For example, if a mixture poses a physical or health hazard, the UFI code must be indicated on the packaging in addition to the usual labelling elements.

The labelling process must take into account both EU legislation and national requirements applicable in the markets where the product is to be sold. This is more than just a legal obligation – informative and clearly presented label text, pictograms, and warning signs help consumers make decisions that meet their needs and reduce the risk of improper product use and allergic reactions.

Taking into account regulatory requirements and practices in different markets, we help our clients prepare or evaluate home fragrance labelling information and avoid the most common mistakes.

  • We check whether the label complies with legal requirements.
  • We translate regulatory label texts and other labelling information.
  • We evaluate advertising claims.
  • We advise on label design, text formatting, font size, and layout.
  • We coordinate and implement multilateral projects in cases where a product is to be supplied to several new markets at once.

Labelling of home fragrances: what to look out for?

  • Every home fragrance supplied to the market must be labelled in the national language.
  • Optimal course of action: high-quality source documents (safety data sheet), regulatory translations into national languages based on the master text, preparation of layouts (package designs).
  • Labels must comply with the requirements of each market to which the product is supplied. This is particularly relevant when you want to start supplying several EU countries at the same time.

Why is it worth turning to experts?

High-quality home fragrance labelling helps ensure that your product ends up on the right shelf. This is not just a technical process, but also the responsibility of every manufacturer to provide consumers with all the information they need to use the product safely. In addition, even minor errors on the label can have unpleasant consequences, ranging from product recall and repackaging to long-term damage to reputation.

Our experts not only have an excellent understanding of EU and national requirements, but also help customers to solve problems effectively, optimize the labelling process, and adapt to market changes.
