Evaluation of food supplement advertising

Advertising can be published in various forms: on television, radio, the internet, in print media, brochures, etc. Although each of these channels requires a different advertising format (video or audio recording, text, etc.), all information provided in advertisements related to food supplements must comply with the requirements applicable to this product category. Otherwise, it cannot be published, and if violations are found in an advertisement that has already been published, fines, reputational damage, and other unpleasant consequences may follow.

There are quite a few restrictions on what claims about food supplements can be used in advertising content. For example, although the packaging of food supplements and medicines is often similar, and products in both categories are sold in pharmacies, food supplements cannot be attributed with therapeutic or prophylactic properties. This is a fine line, so advertising content must be viewed carefully and critically.

Taking into account the intended advertising format and the specifics of food supplements, we will help to ensure:

  • Legal compliance with EU and national requirements.
  • Correct use of health and nutrition claims.
  • Compliance with language requirements in various EU countries.
  • Compliance of content with advertising legislation requirements.
  • Compliance of texts, audio recordings, and visuals with the requirements applied by advertising channels (news portals, TV channels, radio stations, etc.).

In their assessment conclusions, our experts will share not only critical insights, but also recommendations.
