The range of biocidal products is extremely wide, from everyday hand and household disinfectants to specialized products for disinfecting swimming pools or drinking water, protecting wood, or controlling rodents. All these products affect living organisms and may pose a threat to human health or the environment, so they are subject to strict notification, labeling, and authorization requirements.
It is also important to note that, in terms of regulation, biocidal products are also chemical mixtures that are subject to the requirements of the CLP Regulation.
In order to supply products legally and responsibly:
- If a product is hazardous to health or poses a physical hazard, the UFI code (unique formula identifier) must be indicated on its packaging.
- A notification must be prepared and submitted to the Poison Control Centers (PCN) via the ECHA system.
- When supplying a product to the Lithuanian market, it must be notified in the IS AIVIKS database, and if it is supplied to other countries, depending on the composition or purpose of the product, it may need to be notified in other national systems.
The notification process provides competent authorities with the necessary information to enable healthcare professionals and poison centers to provide appropriate assistance in the event of an accident. This information also helps to monitor the movement of chemicals on EU markets and to record the quantities and types of products supplied.
Depending on the product type, area of use, and applicable requirements:
- We generate and integrate the UFI code into the product labeling.
- We prepare and submit PCN notifications to the ECHA system.
- We submit notifications to the IS AIVIKS system for the Lithuanian market.
- We submit notifications to the LVGMC system for the Latvian market.
- We assess whether the notified documents are fully prepared, and if not, we help to prepare them.
- We ensure that the notified data complies with the information on the safety data sheet (SDS) and label.
- We provide consultations on the need for notification and the division of responsibilities among supply chain participants.
- We mediate communication with the responsible national and EU authorities throughout the notification process.
