The category of detergents, cleaning agents, and laundry detergents includes chemical mixtures in various forms (tablets, liquids, gels, powders, pastes, aerosols, wet wipes, etc.) intended for washing or cleaning, containing soap and/or other surfactants. Depending on their classification, these chemical mixtures may pose a health or physical hazard, and are therefore subject to specific requirements, which are particularly important in the event of an accident, when information on the product’s composition and toxicological data is needed to determine preventive and treatment measures. It is therefore mandatory:
- Indicate the UFI code (unique product identifier) on their packaging.
- Prepare and submit a notification to the Poison Control Centers (PCN) via the ECHA system.
- When supplying a product to the Lithuanian market, it is mandatory to report chemical substances or mixtures manufactured, imported, placed on the market, and/or used in industrial, professional, or other economic activities during the calendar year in the AIVIKS system (IS AIVIKS database).
Other EU countries have established their own national requirements and fees for chemical substances and mixtures (chemical products) supplied to the market.
The notification of detergents, cleaning agents, and laundry detergents (i.e., chemical mixtures) is an obligation that applies to manufacturers, importers, distributors, and downstream users. Once all the necessary steps have been taken, the responsible authorities will be able to properly identify which hazardous chemicals and mixtures are being placed on the market, and doctors will be able to provide appropriate assistance in the event of poisoning.
